High Performers & Emotional Endurance

2 minute read

Hard chargers, high performers, you’re moving fast, driving hard, making big things happen. And over the years, you develop an unusual endurance for this ultra-high level of intensity. And when you’re operating at that ultra-high level of intensity, what that means is some of your emotions that are not quite as intense don’t get your attention. They don’t even get on the radar.

You have a high threshold for pain, which isn’t always helpful, because when you are feeling frustrated, irritated, annoyed, disappointed, you’re not honoring that information in that frustration. And so the problems that are happening, the reasons why you’re frustrated, they persist. They continue on. And of course, the cost of those problems just continues to compound. That’s why it is so important to stop and check in with yourself. Ask yourself questions about when you get into your stress zone, and what does that look like?

Because as a human being, your emotions are the most dominant component in your performance state, meaning the state, physically, mentally, and emotionally, the state from which you are thinking, making your decisions, interacting with others, communicating with yourself…that’s your performance state. Once you start to pay attention to your emotions and you start to get to the critical information in your frustration or in your disappointment, you can start to do something productive with it. Then you’re off to the races!

It is incredible to see leaders that learn how to do this with us. They start using the Wingspan tools. They start learning how to stop ignoring what they’re really feeling, and to get really honest, get unfiltered, get to the information, and then do something really effective with it in their personal leadership performance, as well as their interpersonal performance. So it’s time to stop just shouldering all that stress and pressure and to start getting to – what’s the information in that stress and take your performance up, way up, up to those next levels where you really know you’re capable of.
